TIRANA, April 12 – Prime Minister Edi Rama declared on Wednesday that construction companies will not be allowed to enter public tender processes and will not be able to obtain construction permits if they present a balance of payments with minimum wages.
During a meeting with business representatives in Durrës about the minimum wage, Rama said that, by evading wages, they actually rob employees of their pensions and health insurance.
“We can’t sit and complain if certain companies don’t respond to employees with dignity and use wages that are alms for exploitation,” declared Rama.
According to him, construction companies actually rob employees of their pensions and health insurance. “Everyone in Albania talks about pensions and thinks they should be increased. But unlike salaries, pensions increase depending on contributions. They can’t increase if contributions are not paid,” said the Prime Minister.
For this reason, continued Rama, rule will be established according to which those companies that have salary levels that do not correspond to the realities of the sector will not be allowed to enter the public tender processes. Rama said that companies will be required to have a collective labor contract that guarantees the rights of employees. /Argumentum.al
