TIRANA, April 16 – The acting head of the faction of the Democratic Party (DP), Enkelejd Alibeaj and the candidate for mayor of Tirana, Roland Bejko held a meeting with supporters of Unit 9, in the municipality of Tirana, on Sunday.
Alibeaj said that they have a certain disadvantage before the elections referring to the division within the Democrats, but added that in the end it is better to have a little and precisely, than a lot as we were and with the crime and corruption virus within us.
“We tried it in 2013, and the Albanians kicked us out, and I’m including myself. How long have we had the bad traces of the corrupt past, Albanians neither trust us nor vote in our favor,” he said.
“There is only one way to change the face of this country. Only by being honest with ourselves and distancing ourselves completely and without any concessions from the corrupt past,” said Alibeaj.
The faction of Alibeaj has presented a limited number of candidates for the municipality, but their number has been decreasing recently.
Shemsho Lamaj, Alibeaj’s candidate for Gjirokastra municipality, withdrew from the race just a few days before the start of the electoral campaign. In a post on Facebook, he explained that he will not contribute to the division of the right.
Earlier, Alibeaj’s candidate Mark Ruçi also withdrew from the race.
With the last two resignations, Alibeaj has only 14 candidates left for mayors, while it is expected to be seen if they will continue to run for the local elections or if there will be other withdrawals. /Argumentum.al
