TIRANA, April 19 – A businessman was gunned down in the seaport town of Shengjin close to Lezha, northern Albania, on Wednesday. Ardian Nikulaj, 51, was killed with 7 bullets while he was at his business in the “Coral Shengjin” resort when two masked people, who were driving an armored car, shot him and left. The businessman died at the scene, police said.
Details on the victim provided by police revealed that he was a businessman and member of the municipal council and had been arrested earlier for illegal possession of weapons, smuggling and forgery. These events took place in 2003 when he was sentenced to four months in prison for carrying weapons without a permit and in 2006 when he received a fine for smuggling and forging documents.
Pjerin Ndreu, the candidate for mayor of the ruling Socialist Party, at the same time the mayor of Lezha, has reacted to the murder of businessman Nikulaj. He said in a post on social networks that he feels shocked by the event and said that this is a violation of order and of public safety in the city.
“Such an event is a serious violation of order and public security in our city! I strongly request the law enforcement and prosecutor’s office to clarify the event as soon as possible to bring the perpetrators of this heinous event to justice,” Ndreu said, expressing his condolences to the family of the victim. /Argumentum.al
