TIRANA, April 28 – David J. Kostelancik, the nominee of President Joe Biden as the new ambassador of the United States of America to Albania, received confirmation from the Senate on Friday. Support for him has been unanimous, reported local media on Friday. He will replace current ambassador Yuri Kim.
In his presentation before the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate on March 30, he disclosed as a priority of his work in Tirana the strengthening of the new institutions of justice.
Another issue he said he will focus on is the fight against corruption and organized crime, as part of the strategy announced by President Biden. The third point where he said he will focus his work is the further strengthening of the partnership in protecting against cyber attacks and improving the business climate.
Kostelancik has a long career in the field of diplomacy. He most recently served as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley. Earlier he worked in Hungary, Russia and Turkey.
