TIRANA, May 14 – Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the same time head of the Socialist Party (SP), accompanied by his wife Linda Rama, voted on Sunday at the polling station in Surrel for the May 14 local elections.
In a statement to the media after the vote, Rama emphasized that “all that needed to be said has been said, now is the moment for all citizens to have their say. I really hope that the situation created by the Central Election Commission (CEC) has not influenced the discouragement of those who went to vote in the beginning in those areas where the devices did not work.”
Rama called on those who may have been discouraged in the first moments because of the technical problems would try again to cast their ballots.
In the meantime, the Minister of State for Youth and Children, Bora Muzhaqi speaking on behalf of the SP has called on the CEC to apologize publicly to all citizens who were unable to vote due to the problems during Sunday morning.
“From the very first minute, the CEC should have ensured the functioning of the equipment in every polling station, but even worse was the incomprehensible reluctance of the CEC to resolve this self-created impasse by delaying the start of voting in some polling stations. This led to the understandable departure of many voters from their polling stations,” she stated.
Muzhaqi said that, “we are terribly sorry for this and the CEC must issue a public apology to all those who left this morning for its failure to guarantee the start of voting in every polling station on the official schedule.” /argumentum.al
