TIRANA, May 16 – The chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha said that he will not withdraw after the defeat in the May 14 local elections. According to him, incriminated persons put pressure on the voters when they went to the polling stations. He said that the candidates of the “Together We Win” coalition ran a model campaign even though according to him there were attempts by the government to annihilate the opposition.
“I verified with the most important decisions the result of a free and fair election process, but nothing makes me withdraw in any case before a massive violation of the Albanian vote. Let anyone in the whole country say that Sali Berisha influenced or violated the vote of Albanian citizens. In no case; we ran a model campaign”, said Berisha.
According to him, what has happened in Shkodra is not called a vote, but a crime.
“Shkodra voted under true occupation. All opponents’ polls, but also ours, showed (DP mayoral candidate) Bardh Spahina 14-16 points ahead. If you or anyone else thinks that Sali Berisha retreats before the crime, he is blind. I never back down before state and non-state crime gangs. Shkodra is the ugliest example in which it was voted under siege by Edi Rama’s gang,” said Berisha. /argumentum.al
