TIRANA, May 25 – The mayors elected in the three northern municipalities of Kosovo were sworn in on Thursday at 10:00 in the public facilities of the municipalities and not at the municipal assemblies.
The municipality of Zubin Potok will now be led by the new mayor, Izmir Zeqiri, who took the oath as the head of this municipality. During his oath in Çaber, Zeqiri said that he will perform his duties and exercise his powers with honor, loyalty and in accordance with the law in order to ensure conditions for a peaceful life for everyone.
“I wish that we are together in our jobs and responsibilities to be as focused as possible to implement the law of the Republic of Kosovo in the entire territory of the municipality of Zubin Potok,” he said, thanking the citizens who have given him their trust.
The swearing-in ceremony was also held in the municipality of Zveçan, while the elected mayor Ilir Peci was sworn in at the “Isa Boletini” school. In this session, in addition to the mayor, the assembly members of this municipality were also sworn in.
The new mayor from the Municipality of Zveçan comes from the ranks of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), who came out with more votes than the other competing candidates in the April 23 elections.
Speaking on Wednesday the head of the Kosovar executive, Albin Kurti said that the work of the new mayors is centered on the democratic functioning of state institutions and the guarantee of public services for all citizens without distinction.
Kurti said that it is not normal that these municipalities have been without a mayor for 6 months, leaving citizens without municipal services.
While mentioning the swearing in of Erden Atić as the mayor of North Mitrovica, Kurti said that Belgrade influenced the low turnout of Serbian citizens in the April local elections held in the northern municipalities.
In a solemn session in the facility of the Municipality of Northern Mitrovica last Friday (May 19th), Erden Atić was sworn in as the mayor. His first decision was the appointment of Katarina Adjancić from the Serbian community as deputy mayor of the municipality. /argumentum.al
