TIRANA, June 2 – The Authority for Information on Former State Security Documents has announced that it has decided to launch the administrative investigation procedure for the verification of suspected burial sites to clarify the fate of the forty-four missing persons in Spac prison.
According to the announcement, the Authority’s group of specialists, in cooperation with local institutions, worked to collect preliminary facts, testimonies and data about the Spaç prison in order to shed light on the consequences of labor exploitation and violence against prisoners in the camp of forced labor in Spac.
The authority took the initiative in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the prisoners’ revolt in Spac, during which an in-depth investigation into the event and the reasons that led to its development and consequences arose as a need.
The searches made in the documents found in the Authority or in other institutions such as the General Directorate of Prisons, the Ministry of the Interior, the General Directorate of Archives reveal that there are 44 ex-convicts who were executed, killed or they died from torture and diseases while serving their sentence, accidents at work or escape attempts. /argumentum.al
