TIRANA, June 13 – After about a week of silence, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti has reacted regarding the draft proposed by the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama for the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority. He said that he has not seen that draft, but the address should be Belgrade and the request for Albanians in the Presevo Valley.
“Prime Minister Edi Rama should present this draft statute for national minorities to the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, at the next meeting of the Open Balkans,” Kurti said.
He made these comments at a press conference where he presented a five-point proposal for de-escalation in the north of Kosovo, a proposal that he presented to the high representative of the EU, as well as to the representatives of the QUINT countries at a meeting on Tuesday morning.
He has proposed the establishment of the rule of law in the north including the prosecution and trial of criminal groups. Violent groups should withdraw immediately from the territory of Kosovo. Kosovo Police and KFOR or EULEX carry out joint security assessments every 15 days. Regarding early elections Kurti said that they cannot demand the resignation of the mayors, but the possibility of a petition proposed by the president can be considered.
The fifth point proposed by the government is that Kosovo and Serbia immediately return to the dialogue mediated by Brussels.
In the meantime it was announced by PM Edi Rama on Tuesday evening at an unannounced press conference that the joint meeting between the governments of Albania and Kosovo scheduled to be held on Wednesday has been cancelled. /argumentum.al
