TIRANA, June 19 – The Secretary General of the Democratic Party (DP), Gazment Bardhi, said in a statement to the media on Monday that the acts of the chairmanship are in violation of the party’s Statute.
He said that 17 deputies will not be at the meeting of the National Council that is expected to be held on Tuesday, something which deepens the split in the DP faction headed by the former head, Lulzim Basha.
“I was not familiar with the concrete content of the decision and I declare that this decision contradicts the DP statute and the decisions of the National Council,” said Bardhi. According to him, the chairmanship’s decision removes the powers of the general council and the general secretary.
“According to the statute, the organization of the party and bodies is the responsibility of the general secretary. 17 members decided not to attend tomorrow’s meeting in flagrant opposition,” Bardhi said, adding that this is an ugly story that should never be repeated.
“The Democratic Party needs reflection, not hatred. My position has nothing to do with the names of my colleagues, but it has a goal of strengthening the DP. Colleagues of the chairmanship should show prudence in their decision-making. There is only one DP and it is that DP that will have to be strengthened and become a governing alternative,” said Bardhi. /argumentum.al
