TIRANA, June 27 – The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK, in cooperation with the Italian and EU authorities ‘Europol’ and ‘Eurojust’ has carried out a huge anti-drug operation in several cities of Albania as well as in North Macedonia and Italy. Cities such as Tirana, Durrës, Elbasan, Vlora and Korca were the main points of arrests.
In a press conference on Tuesday, SPAK prosecutor Vladimir Mara gave details on the anti-drug operation. According to Mara, a total of 21 personal security measures have been issued, while 20 have been executed. Mara added that one of the suspected traffickers has been announced as wanted internationally.
“A total of 21 personal security measures have been imposed, of which 20 have been executed today, while one person has been announced as an internationally wanted person. Numerous material pieces of evidence were seized. What is most important is that all the seizures of narcotics were carried out in the territory of the Republic of Albania, Greece, North Macedonia and Italy,” he said.
Specifically, the seized narcotics, of the type “Cocaine”, “Heroin”, “Marijuana”, ” Risinë” were obtained by traffickers in Syria, Turkey and other countries of the Middle East, then trafficked to Greece, Albania with destination Italy and EU countries.
The leader of the criminal group is Endrit Bakiu, while the rest of the arrested had the role of distributing narcotics. A reading of the list of the drug traffickers released by the official authorities, shows that all are Albanian citizens. /argumentum.al
