TIRANA, June 29 – Kosovo’s support for membership in the Council of Europe and Albania’s request to declare as unenforceable the resolution that accuses the Kosovo Liberation Army of organ trafficking during the war, were the focus of discussions between the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla and Honorary President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, René van der Linden.
The Assembly of Albania announced that the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, received on Thursday the Honorary President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, René van der Linden, who is on a visit to Tirana.
According to the announcement, she appreciated Van der Linden’s contribution to the leadership of the Parliamentary Assembly of CoE during the years 2005-2008 and the right positions in difficult times for the continent, democracy, human rights, peace and security.
The Speaker informed Van der Linden about the Resolution of the Assembly of Albania “On the inapplicability of the allegations of illegal trafficking of human organs in Kosovo and Albania”, officially forwarded to the Council of Europe, asking it to review Resolution 1782 (2011), and to declare unfounded the claims of illegal trafficking of human organs in Albania and/or Kosovo, in the light of facts and evidence in the service of truth and justice.
Van der Linden praised Albania’s achievements in deepening reforms, the fight against organized crime, money laundering and corruption, and underlined that these results have enabled the opening of negotiations and advancement towards the EU. /argumentum.al
