The Commission for the Re-foundation of the Democratic Party, launched by veteran leader Sali Berisha, and part of the coalition the ‘House of Freedom’ was not registered by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on Friday.
According to the CEC head, Ilirjan Celibashi the Commission has decided to register the “House of Freedom” coalition in the local by-elections on March 6, accepting only two political parties, the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) and the Christian Democratic Party (CDP), but not Sali Berisha’s Re-establishment Commission.
The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, said after the debates between the representatives of DP run by Lulzim Basha, and the SMI, that “in the final assessment, I decide to register as a subject the coalition of political parties SMI and PDK and the name of the coalition is” House of Freedom “and the leading party is the SMI.”
Further, Celibashi clarified that the symbols of the Re-establishment Commission of the Democratic Party cannot be accepted in this coalition, because the interest of another political force is violated.
“I consider that the request of the electoral subject SMI reviewed today to register a coalition has full legitimacy and may need to be considered as a request,” he said, adding that the request to include in symbols, initials or even in its essence elements related to DP cannot be accepted.
“In the final evaluation, I decided to register as a subject the coalition of political parties LSI and CDP, the name of the coalition is” House of Freedom “and the leading party is SMI,” said Celibashi.
The representative of the Democratic Party, Marash Logu said that as it was made known through the letter, it is clear that the chairman of the Democratic Party and the only person to submit applications for registration of subjects is Lulzim Basha. “We do not have such an entity, called the DP Re-establishment Commission. The reference is made to DP, which is registered as an electoral subject, with chairman Lulzim Basha, with representatives Marash Logu and Idrit Sefi,” he said.
The representative of SMI said that what Logu said is not logical. “He talks about legal provisions and interprets them in his own way. The political directives given by the one who keeps the party at all costs, shielding its doors, do not have to do with acts or characters of the law… Regarding the initial agreement, made by us with CDP and the Commission of Re-establishment, I tell Logu that the facts show otherwise. We cannot tell Albanians that a place, which has space for about 2,000 chairs, 5004 delegates can enter,” said the SMI representative. / Argumentum.al
