TIRANA – As many as 19 new cases were confirmed on Tuesday in the highest rise of the number of the affected persons with coronavirus at a time when this week has been considered as the most aggressive period of Covid-19 in Albania.
“Some 19 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed during the last 24 hours as 74 tests were made. So far, 930 tests have been made out of which 123 persons have been confirmed positive,” said the head of the epidemiology intelligence department, Eugena Tomini in the daily update on Tuesday.
Ms. Tomini also announced that a 49-year old patient from Tirana passed away because of the infection rising to 5 the number of persons who have lost their life since the outbreak of the pandemic. But she sounded optimistic while announcing that 10 patients have already recovered.
It’s to be noticed that the geographic map continues to expand as cases were found out in northern areas of the country. Tirana continues to have the highest number of the affected with 72 declared cases followed by Fier with 12 and Durres with 8.
President to Convene National Security Council Soon
Local TV stations and social networks dedicated much of the broadcasting prime time on Monday evening to an intensive awareness drive to sensitize people of the threat posed by Covid – 19 during these days.
‘Stay at home’ sounded like a plea made by medical specialists, including many who work abroad, as well as politicians and media representatives in appearances on different television channels and other media outlets.
President Ilir Meta announced on a TV talk on Monday that he will convene the National Security Council within two days where even opposition will be invited to attend.
“I will convene the National Security Council within two days and will extend an invitation to the opposition head, Lulzim Basha to be present for listening to what will be discussed and also express his thoughts on the situation,” said the President, who has hinted on the possibility of holding a round table with the participation of all political parties of Albania./Argumentum.al
