TIRANA – There has been a tense situation at the Kakavija border checkpoint with a group of about 60 Albanians blocked in the area between Greece and Albania for a long time. They have threatened to start a protest by not letting trucks loaded with goods pass the border to Albania.
The 60- member group left Greece for Albania where they could not enter because of the measures taken to contain coronavirus’s spread. According to news reports, the citizens among whom children and elderly spent last Wednesday night in open sky and cold weather.
So far there is no solution to their situation as they are stranded in the so called no man’s land between Greece and Albania as the latter’s border authorities do not let them in.
Greek authorities have not prevented Albanians to leave Greece for entering Albania through the border checkpoints between the two countries, a press release distributed by the public diplomacy office of the Greek Embassy in Tirana said last Wednesday./argumentum.al
