TIRANA, June 2 – The authority of the serious crimes prosecution, SPAK has made a balance sheet of its work for the month of May this year, said a statement released by this institution on Thursday. According to the analysis of SPAK, 15 criminal reports were filed of which for 4 reports it was decided not to initiate investigations during May.
The statement also said that 6 criminal proceedings were sent for trial with 27 defendants, of which, 1 proceeding with 8 defendants for criminal offenses related to organized crime and 5 proceedings with 19 defendants for criminal offenses related to corruption.
“Based on the requests submitted by the Special Prosecution, personal security measures have been approved by the Special Court against 44 persons under investigation,” the statement said.
In the meantime, 5 letters rogatory were received from foreign judicial authorities and the requests were executed and 7 letters rogatory were sent for execution to foreign authorities.
SPAK has been a target of attacks by political forces including PM Edi Rama who have asked the prosecution body to carry out investigations into President Ilir Meta and former PM Sali Berisha.
