TIRANA, May 30 – The member of the Academy of Sciences, Artan Fuga, has sent a letter to Prime Minister Edi Rama asking him not to sign the decision of the Council of Ministers (VKM) prepared by the Ministry of Education for the dissolution of the Academy of Albanological Studies.
In a seven-page letter, academician Fuga listed the reasons why the institutes of Albanianology, together with the Academy, should not be subordinated to the Academy of Sciences headed by Skënder Gjinushi, a former head of the Social Democrat Party and former Minister of Education at the time of the communist governance.
“I’m not in the habit of begging. But, if this would ease the pressure on you from that draft text of VKM, and the non-scientific lobbies behind it, I have no hesitation for the first time: Please do not sign that garbage (VKM) of power-hungry bureaucrats!” said the well-known academician.
Fuga asked the PM to listen to the voice of intellectuals without thirst for power who are calling for help, support and fair treatment, and not to listen to the calls of those who want power at any cost.
“I pray that if we the living are not high enough to weigh on your pen, listen to the dead or the future yet unborn who are following your pen, see You and speak to You today,” wrote Fuga among other things. /argumentum.al
