TIRANA, October 11 – The ruling Socialist Party (SP) and the opposition have reached an agreement on issuing a joint resolution regarding the Serb aggression act against police forces in the north of Kosovo.
Thursday’s plenary session of the Assembly will focus on a national issue such as the tensions in Kosovo and according to reports the Albanian legislators will share a unified stance on the approval of the joint resolution document that condemns the Serbian terrorist attacks in the North.
The DP Parliamentary Group requested the unification of the stance of the Assembly of Albania with that of the Assembly of Kosovo, supporting the Resolution that the latter adopted on September 28. In that Resolution, Serbia is held responsible for the attack on September 24 and an international investigation is required against Serbia. On September 29, the head of the DP group at the time, Gazment Bardhi, proposed the unification of the stance with the Assembly of Kosovo, just one day after Kosovo approved its resolution.
For its part, the SP Parliamentary Group was not of this attitude, and presented a proposal of its own, having a more balanced approach. The draft submitted on October 2 by the head of the socialist parliamentary group Bledi Çuçi had some softer approaches in relation to the Kosovo Resolution, which, according to Berisha and Bardhi, “avoided Belgrade from responsibility, as well as an international investigation towards Serbia”.
After long discussions between the parties, the socialists have agreed with the stance of the opposition to support the Kosovo Resolution without reservations, making it possible for the Assembly of Albania to unify the position with the Assembly of Kosovo according to the principle “One nation, one stance!”
The parties have thus reached an agreement that the Assembly approves on Thursday a resolution that foresees the full support of Resolution No. 08-R-009 of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, approved in its plenary session on September 28, 2023; the international investigation and the encouragement to continue the dialogue with the final goal of the recognition of the independence of Kosovo by Serbia. In this way, Albania fully unifies its stance with Kosovo, holding Serbia responsible for the September 24 attack and doing everything to have an international investigation against Serbia. /argumentum.al
