TIRANA, March 6 – Prime Minister Edi Rama declared on Monday that Albania has a history of very good diplomatic relations with Denmark, while he emphasized the need for their deepening in terms of economics and tourism.
“Denmark has been present in the entire process of the transformation of the country, whether through its aid agency, but above all politically and diplomatically as a determined supporter of Albania and the Western Balkans in the process of European integration,” said Prime Minister Rama during the joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, who is in Tirana on an official visit.
On the other hand, Rama emphasized the fact that the history of recent years has been a history of serious crises, adding that the visit of the Danish Prime Minister has a special importance for the geopolitical relations between the European Union and the Western Balkans, and for the relations of this country with the Western Balkans.
Further he said that there is a significant increase in the number of Danish tourists in Albania and direct flights from Copenhagen to Tirana have increased year after year.
Describing the Danish PM’s visit to Tirana as historic, Rama thanked her for the support given to Albania at a difficult moment when a catastrophic earthquake left over 15,000 families homeless.
For her part, the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, said that Albania is a highly valued partner for Denmark and a very trusted NATO ally.
“I think you are one of the strongest voices in Europe when it comes to the importance of a full integration between the Western Balkans and the rest of Europe, and this is becoming more and more important,” said Frederiksen.
The Danish Prime Minister also touched upon the war in Ukraine appreciating Albania’s role.
Asked by the media during the conference about joint cooperation between Albania and Denmark, she said that, “I would like to emphasize the importance of building stronger cooperation when it comes to internal migration in the EU, but also for external borders.” /Argumentum.al
