Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Saturday in a press conference that the State Department has confirmed that the US and Albania will be co-pen holders of the Ukraine issue in the United Nations Security Council.
“With this role at the UN leadership table, Albania takes a great responsibility, with high dignity in the field of international relations and climbs a new ladder in the increasingly close partnership with the United States of America,” Rama stressed, who revealed that he was very moved by such an event.
The Prime Minister said that this development is extremely positive for the position, the reputation, and the dignity of Albania in the international arena.
Without discussion, Rama continued, membership in the Security Council for 2022-2023 as a non-permanent member and the dimension that this fact gives to relations with the US is enriched with this new fact.
The head of government said that “the creation of this couple US and Albania in the Security Council to be co-hosts of the Ukraine issue is undertaken to guarantee an active and continuous engagement with concrete initiatives that the two countries, which are now close partners in this process, will undertake, something that clearly confirms an unequivocal position of our country.”
In a comment on Twitter Ambassador Yuri Kim said on Saturday that the US appreciates Albania’s leadership on the UN Security Council as co-pen holder with the US on the Ukraine issue.
“Russia’s aggression not only threatens Ukraine and Europe, but the international order that the UNSC is charged with upholding,” said Kim. / Argumentum.al
