Given the fact that the new Omicron variant has been identified in citizens who have had travel history and contacts with Southern African countries, as well as the fact that the nature of the virus’ aggressiveness is still unclear, the Committee of Experts decided to recommend a ban on entry in Albania of foreign nationals with travel history within the last 14 days in countries: South Africa, Kenya, Angola, Zambia, Bostwana and Senegal starting from December 3 for three weeks.
According to the release of the Committee of Experts on Thursday, resident Albanian citizens, who come to Albania and have a travel history of the last 14 days before arrival in the countries listed above will be quarantined in their homes for 14 days and will be monitored by health units.
In the meantime it is announced that the other restrictions remain more or less the same in Albania The curfew continues to be from 23:00 – 06:00 while citizens entering Albania from all border crossings or those in transit, must continue to submit one of the following documents: vaccination passport, where the date of the applied vaccination should at least be two weeks from the date of entry at the border; PCR test, performed within 72 hours or rapid antigenic test within 48 hours of border entry; Sars-Cov-2 infection test valid for up to 6 months after cure.
Albanian resident citizens who do not have any of the documents mentioned in point 1 must be isolated for a period of 10 days and inform the health authorities to perform a test at the end of the isolation period. The experts said that the order for wearing masks indoors, shopping malls, supermarkets, shops, etc., remains in force in all those places where physical distancing is not provided.
On the other hand it remains in force the order to allow gatherings of up to 50 people and cultural activities, sports, etc. up to 30 percent of their capacity in the presence of spectators.
In the meantime PM Edi Rama took the third jab of the vaccine in the presence of media on Thursday taking that opportunity to call on citizens to get vaccinated to prevent spread of the disease
