TIRANA, June 4 – The Special Prosecutor’s Office found itself in difficulties, as it announced the search for and located leaders of criminal groups accused of various crimes in the country and could not extradite them from Dubai due to the lack of agreements with United Arab Emirates, said the head of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime, Altin Dumani in an interview with TV Klan on Sunday.
According to him, other countries face such a problem, but Albania received the first refusal for the extradition of Plaurent Dervishaj in 2020, who has two pending processes in the Special Court as a participant and organizer in various assassinations.
Dumani said this is a responsibility of the government. “The Special Prosecutor’s Office has transmitted to the Ministry of Justice four requests for the extradition of Albanian citizens from the United Arab Emirates, which are still being examined by the Arab authorities,” he said.
Asked by TV Klan, the Ministry of Justice did not answer whether there are concrete moves by the latter to initiate an agreement with the United Arab Emirates, but stated that the issue is quite sensitive. /argumentum.al
