TIRANA, April 14 – President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, who is on an official visit to Baku, have held a one-on-one meeting. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev then had a working dinner with Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama on Thursday, reported Azertac.
“Albania has been, is and will be a full supporter of Azerbaijan, of the truth and historical right of Azerbaijan,” Rama said, referring to the country’s conflict with Armenia. “We commend your commendable and exemplary efforts for peace and long-term cooperation with your neighbor, Armenia,” Rama was quoted as saying by ATA.
“At the same time, we are both blessed to have a very strong bridge between us, which is Turkey, and I strongly believe that we can do more, and you mentioned it, in areas of potential growth of cooperation. And of course, I look forward to hearing and seeing the prospects and what our teams have achieved, both in the energy sector and tourism,” said Rama.
“As I have told you several times, we have somehow our right to be jealous of Montenegro, because there, you have made a massive investment, not only in financial terms, but also the model that is and I hope you will do the same. Meanwhile, I look forward to keeping your word by coming to Albania now that Covid has softened somewhat and the way is open,” Rama said.
For his part President of Azerbaijan Aliyev stated that there is potential for increased cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries. Aliyev said that the visit of the head of the Albanian government “proves once again the high level of political dialogue between our two countries.
“Azerbaijan has been an exporter of natural gas to Europe for more than a year and Albania has been a supporter of this initiative and your high-level representatives have always participated in the meetings of the Consultative Council of the Southern Corridor and have contributed to the implementation of these projects. So we are in a team of countries, which have successfully implemented this historic project, given the importance of the southern gas corridor, especially the Transatlantic gas pipeline. I think this is now more visible than before,” Aliyev said. “Our representatives are holding meetings on our broader portfolio of energy cooperation, which includes natural gas, transit supplies and electricity,” he said. Referring to cooperation in tourism he spoke of opportunities in that field for citizens of both countries to have various tourist opportunities, said Aliyev. /Argumentum.al
