Albania brought to attention the historical heritage of its people in defense of the Jews at the Conference on the Fight against Anti-Semitism in the OSCE region organized by Poland, as the rotating Chair of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), in cooperation with the Office of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
The conference was held in Warsaw on 7-8 February 2022 and the OSCE participating States committed themselves to include anti-Semitism in the organization’s agenda by intensifying efforts to promote tolerance and non-discrimination on a human scale in a series of decisions and declarations, including the Declaration on Increasing Efforts to Combat Anti-Semitism.
Albania was represented at the event by Deputy Foreign Minister Megi Fino, who highlighted in her speech some of the initiatives undertaken by Albania in the framework of promoting tolerance and non-discrimination in the OSCE region. She mentioned specifically the “Tirana Conference on Anti-Semitism” organized by Albania with the participation of senior officials from OSCE participating States, as well as civil society and academia.
Deputy Minister Fino also drew attention to Albania’s historical heritage in defense of the Jews. She stated that this Balkan country remains ready to support initiatives and programs within the UN and to rise up and fight anti-Semitism, as well as other forms of racism, prejudice and hatred in cooperation with other countries which share the same stance. / Argumentum.al
