TIRANA, September 11 – Albanian politicians marked the terrorist act of September 11, 2001 in New York expressing their sympathy for the families of the victims of that tragedy.
“22 years ago, due to the cruelty of a terrorist act, the American nation lost over 3,000 beautiful lives and part of the hearts of 3,000 American families were broken,” said the Speaker Lindita Nikolla in a message on Monday.
“Since September 11, 2001, the battle of the US and the democratic and civilized world against terrorism has continued fiercely. Free and democratic nations have won, are winning and will win the battles with terrorists and their supporters,” said Nikolla.
“As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, a worthy member of NATO and a candidate for the EU, Albania today stands by the side of the US and the EU in the fight against terrorism, especially cyber terrorism, and violent extremism,” said the Speaker.
“Cyber security is currently a priority of the Albanian-American strategic partnership, and the Assembly has supported and will continue to support this priority of bilateral cooperation,” the Speaker of the Assembly concluded her message.
Commemorating this date, Prime Minister Edi Rama wrote on social networks, posting a photo of the “Ground Zero” memorial in New York: “Never forget!”
The head of the Freedom Party (FP) Ilir Meta said in a post on Facebook that September 11, 22 years ago, was a shocking moment for the US and the whole world.
That tragedy was also the beginning of a worldwide alliance in the fight against terrorism, an alliance in which Albania immediately joined and has given and will always give its uninterrupted contribution. /argumentum.al
