TIRANA, March 28 – The government has ready the draft law on online betting that will be taken to the Parliament for review soon after passing the public consultation phase, revealed on Tuesday Prime Minister Edi Rama.
According to him, the draft predicts that the income provided by allowing this activity, which was declared illegal by the Rama government 4 years ago, will be used only for sports and culture.
Rama said that such a bill is being approved in order that this informal activity where a lot of black money circulates turns into a formalized activity where large international companies have access and there are guarantees for players in all aspects.
“We have defined very clearly in the law that this money cannot be used to cover other government needs, but will be focused only on sports,” he said.
Rama admitted that the ban on online betting has not stopped this phenomenon, while he explained the legal provisions for the management of the fund that would benefit from the taxes that will be collected from online betting.
The Prime Minister also talked about a new financial policy for supporting athletes even during the training phase for important championships.
Rama made the promises for the support of the athletes at the ceremony of awarding certificates of appreciation to 7 athletes of different disciplines who have received awards in international championships, a tradition started with the athlete, Luiza Gega.
