TIRANA, July 18 – Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku participated in the high-level political meeting at the United Nations, in New York, with a focus on sustainable development objectives.
Balluku presented the Albanian government’s objectives for increasing investments and the use of renewable energy.
“Albania, the Albanian government and the Albanian parliament have been committed to this agenda for a long time and we are sure that we will achieve many of these targets, as is the case with the renewable energy target,” she said.
According to her, Albania used 42% of renewable energy in the country last year and the 2030 target is predicted at 45%.
She expressed her belief that the target for Albania in the 2030 agenda will be to increase the use of renewable energy beyond the 45% forecast, to the extent of 54.4%.
Balluku said that, “we have decided that the target for Albania in the 2030 agenda is 54.4%, making our country one of the best examples to follow, not only for the Balkans, but also for Europe.”
The 2030 Agenda of the UN envisions a secure world free of poverty and hunger, with full and productive employment, access to quality education and universal health coverage, the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, and an end to environmental degradation. It’s not reported if the number two of the Albanian government Belinda Balluku spoke in detail of the above issues, which as a matter of fact, are of great concern in Albania, the poorest country in the Western Balkans whose people are leaving it massively in search of better living conditions. /argumentum.al
