TIRANA – Courts have suspended their performance and services in the entire territory of Albania as the number of people infected by coronavirus has increased to ten.
“Under the circumstances when it is declared the closure of all educational institutions in the country for the protection of population’s health in face of the infection caused by Covid-2019, the High Judicial Council has decided the suspension of judicial activities and services in all courts of the Republic of Albania,” said a press release issued by the HJC press office on Tuesday.
However urgent cases are excluded from this suspension and they would be considered by judges case by case as for example those related to measures of security and pre- detention deadlines.
“In any case, the presence of the public at the courts’ premises is forbidden,” said the announcement. These measures will last until March 24, 2020.
As such a decision on courts’ shutdown was announced, the Deputy Health Minister, Mira Rakacolli unveiled on Tuesday that the number of people known to be infected with coronavirus has risen to 10 in this Balkan country.
“Some 114 cases have been tested by the Institute of Public Health and out of them ten have resulted positive in coronavirus test,” she said.
In the meantime a strong denouncement has been made by the opposition Democratic Party (DP) whose Secretary General Gazmend Bardhi declared on Tuesday that 1.2 masks, which had expired since December 2011, were distributed by the government.
“We are familiar with the shocking fact of government’s irresponsibility and criminal activity. These boxes have a stamp hiding the expiration date. If you remove it, it is written that they expire on December 20, 2011. This indicates that the Ministry of Health and all institutions are involved in criminal activity,” said the DP senior official in a statement made to the press./argumentum.al
