TIRANA, September 3 – “I was uncomfortably surprised by a post on social networks, where a member of the Serbian community in the center of Opatija City during the tourist season, calls for hatred towards the ethnic group, in this case towards Albanians for their nationality,” said the Albanian Croatian Deputy Ermina Lekaj Prljaskaj in a post on FB on Friday.
According to her, such activities cause the spread of hatred, intolerance and discord between nations, discrimination against and eventually igniting an already existing hatred towards the Albanian people.
“The city of Opatija has been a multicultural city for centuries, and such activities by a few citizens spread a bad image about tourism in the Republic of Croatia,” said the Deputy of Albanian origin in the Parliament of Croatia.
“I publicly condemn this shameful act and ask the competent institutions to take all legal measures, which provide that the spread of hatred towards one ethnic group in the territory of the Republic of Croatia is punished according to the existing criminal law,” concluded the statement in the form of an appeal by Deputy Ermina Lekaj Prljaskaj.
