TIRANA, September 21 – The Minister of the Interior and at the same time the Socialist MP, Taulant Balla, has expressed his proposal regarding the draft law on citizenship that is being discussed in the Albanian parliament.
Balla requested in the proceedings of Thursday’s parliamentary session that the citizens of Kosovo, who have the Albanian language as their official language, should not undergo a test on the Albanian language and history in order to obtain citizenship.
According to him, citizens from countries where the Albanian language is the official language, which includes North Macedonia, know as much about the Albanian language and history as the Albanians in Albania.
“We demand that the citizens of Kosovo, who have an official language, speak the language as well as we do and know our history as well as we do, they should not have to undergo a test for language or knowledge of history. In this perspective, an exception will be made for countries where the Albanian language is the official language. Even in North Macedonia, the Albanian language is the official language, so all the brothers and sisters, who will seek Albanian citizenship, this will be possible,” he said.
Balla stressed that it would be an historic decision to advance a responsibility that the mother country has for those who apply for Albanian passports. /argumentum.al
