Albania’s interior minister has revealed that he was in Lebanon looking to repatriate more Albanians related to other nationals who had joined Islamic extremist groups in Syria and Iraq.
Bledi Cuci, in Beirut in the last two days, said on Thursday he met there with Maj. Gen. Abas Ibrahim, the head of Lebanon’s General Security Directorate.
“Together with the Consul General of Albania in Lebanon, Marc Ghorayeb, and the Director of the Anti-Terror Directorate of the State Police, Gledis Nano, I had a meeting with the Director General of Security in Lebanon, Major General Abbas Ibrahim. I thanked the General for all his valuable contribution to this process and assured him of the continuation of cooperation between our two countries on security issues and especially in the successful finalization of this difficult operation in the shortest possible time,” said Cuci.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama had described Maj. Gen. Abas Ibrahim, the head of Lebanon’s General Security Directorate,
as “instrumental” in a previous successful attempt.
In addition the Minister said the visit to Beirut is also a significant indicator of the Albanian government’s insistence on the repatriation of Albanian citizens from Syria.
“We will work with the same dedication and determination to successfully finalize this operation as we did the first time,” Cuci said. /argumentum.al
