TIRANA – The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama is not the right person for negotiations between the political parties in Belarus as the Chairperson-in-office of the OSCE, has said political analyst Fatos Lubonja.
In a talk show on “News 24” TV on Monday
Lubonja said that if Rama were to negotiate, Alexander Lukashenko’s side would say to him that “you stole the elections in Albania and you will negotiate on such issues”.
In addition the analyst said that it is noticed that the Russian-led bloc accuses the West of interfering in Belarus’ affairs for geopolitical reasons, to expand its sphere of influence. But, according to him, it cannot be denied that the West does not have the same standard as regarding Belarus when it comes to countries with authoritarian leaders who are on its side like in Albania, Montenegro or Serbia.
So, as Lubonja said, Edi Rama is not the best representative to talk about vote theft there. “They can tell him that you made elections with the mafia in Albania, you made elections without opposition, and you will come to tell us about elections. Rama is a fragile negotiator, if the West would choose him as such.”
Regarding the current political situation in Albania, Lubonja stressed that it is in a deep crisis shifting to a stateless country.
He blamed the political class of using politics to get rich, while was skeptical about opposition’s stance.
Asked about the talks between Kosovo and Serbia, Lubonja said that he had heard a theory according to which US President Donald Trump is holding the talks in Washington against the background of the election campaign. So he believes that Trump aims at winning votes from the Serbian lobby in Ohio.
According to him, if this theory turns out to be true, it could be bad news for Albanians.
“As far as I have noticed, the talks between Kosovo and Serbia in the US were postponed to September 4. It is thought that the talks are election-related, meaning that Donald Trump has an interest in this kind of pre-election meeting because it brings benefits to him.” It seemed strange to Lubonja that the Serbian lobby is attracted to America and that the Serbian lobby is so important there.
“In Ohio, the Serbian lobby seems to matter. If so, it would be a problem for Albanians,” the analyst said, adding that Serbia can take advantage of it. In this frame he brought to the attention the thesis of border changes between Kosovo and Serbia.
“The Serbian lobby can profit, so we should be concerned. This seems to me a hypothesis, but a credible one,” concluded political analyst Lubonja./argumentum.al
