TIRANA, June 12 – Albania’s highest authorities commemorated the 23rd anniversary of NATO intervention in Kosovo through messages posted on social networks on Sunday.
“Today, on Liberation Day, every Albanian rejoices over the achievements of the Republic of Kosovo, a key factor for peace, stability and security in the region, an inspiring example of building democracy and the rule of law, which deserves to be a member of NATO as soon as possible, beneficiary of visa liberalization, member of the Council of Europe, as well as any international organization,” said President Ilir Meta.
“On this historic day we honor the strategic vision of President Ibrahim Rugova, the glorious resistance of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), the legendary heroism of Commander Adem Jashari and the sacrifices of every Albanian who contributed to freedom and independence,” said Meta.
In the meantime Prime Minister Edi Rama said in his post: “A new era was opened for Kosovo Albanians 23 years ago thanks to the entry of NATO forces.”
According to him, on June 12, 1999, NATO soldiers entered Kosovo delivering the message of freedom and stopping the suffering of the Albanian people.
For his part the chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha said this is a historic day for Kosovo, the Albanian nation and NATO.
“This is a day of boundless gratitude to all those who fought and gave their lives for the freedom of Kosovo, to the North Atlantic Alliance, its armies and member states, in particular to the United States and President Bill Clinton who led the battle of NATO for the liberation of Kosovo. Long live Kosovo, long live NATO!” said Berisha. /Argumentum.al
