North Macedonia is confident that the start of accession negotiations of Skopje and Tirana with the EU will impact positively on the whole region.
This was the message conveyed at the meeting between President Stevo Pendarovski with Zef Mazi, Albania’s chief negotiator with the European Union which was held in Skopje on Friday.
According to zhurnal.mk, they exchanged views and information on the prospects for holding an intergovernmental conference between the two countries and the official start of accession negotiations between the Republic of North Macedonia and Albania with the EU.
The interlocutors expressed hope that the implementation of the new negotiation methodology will facilitate the accession negotiation process for both the countries which have been blocked because of Bulgaria’s veto on North Macedonia.
President Pendarovski assessed that the visit is a good opportunity for exchange of views on issues at the technical and political level related to the negotiation process, as well as for opening perspectives for future cooperation in that plan.
As it was noted in the statement released by the Cabinet of President Pendarovski, the latter welcomed Albania’s progress in key areas for EU integration.
“President Pendarovski expressed confidence that the start of membership negotiations with Northern Macedonia and Albania will have a positive impact on the stability and prosperity of the entire region and expressed hope that the implementation of the new negotiation methodology will facilitate the accession negotiation process,” said the statement.
It is evident in Brussels a division of stances on the decoupling of the negotiations process with some contries demanding the start of Albania’s talks but some others like Greece, Slovenia, Gemany and others which oppose the separation of the process seeing it as a package. /argumentum.al
