TIRANA, October 5 – President Bajram Begaj paid an official visit to the city of Shkodra, as announced by the presidential press office on Wednesday.
His agenda of the official visit started with a meeting with the mayor, Bardh Spahia and the mayor of the Municipal Council, Brisela Kadija.
Shkodra is known as a bastion of the opposition Democratic Party.
The President said that “local government institutions should be as close as possible to citizens with their decisions, especially at these times of economic difficulties and price increases as a result of the international crisis.”
“Transparency in decision-making, good governance and consultation with the community and interest groups should be common work practice for all elected institutions,” he said.
In addition the President participated in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the “28 Nëntori” Gymnasium in Shkodra.
In his greeting speech, he expressed his gratitude for the outstanding educational figures of this institution, for the professionalism and dedication of the teachers, for the high achievements of the students, who have laid foundation stones in national education in Albania.
On this occasion, President Begaj awarded this gymnasium with the “Honour of the Nation” decoration, as the first secular school in the country with the motivation “For the contribution made to the education and training of generations over a century”.
President Begaj had meetings with Prefect Majlinda Angoni and representatives of the District Council.
He also met with the representatives of the religious communities to whom he expressed appreciation for the personal contribution and that of the entire community in cultivating excellent relations and religious tolerance in the city of Shkodra. /Argumentum.al
