The EU Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak has been cut and short in his answer to a question regarding the confidence of Western Balkan leaders in the Union’s promises.
Lajcak said that if the leaders of the Western Balkans do not trust the EU, then let them go somewhere else.
BalkanForum search officer Samir Beharic, quoted by a local media, asked Lajcak exactly the above, even mentioning promises to the EU such as Kosovo visa liberalization or the opening of negotiations with North Macedonia, which in fact even includes Albania.
Miroslav Lajcak was appointed as EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues in spring of 2020. Lajcak, a former Foreign Minister, is from Slovakia which doesn’t recognize Kosovo’s statehood.
Beharic said he asked Lajcak why should the Western Balkan leaders trust the EU promises, taking into account the EU failed to deliver visa liberalization to Kosovo and accession talks with North Macedonia.
“If you don’t trust the EU, go somewhere else,” was the senior diplomat’s answer to Samir Beharic whose full post in social networks on Wednesday is below:
“I asked Miroslav Lajcak why should the Western Balkan leaders trust the EU promises, taking into account the EU failed to deliver visa liberalisation to Kosovo and accession talks with North Macedonia.
His reply was abhorrent: “If you don’t trust the EU, go somewhere else.” / argumentum.al
