“The Socialist Party (SP) will respect any decision of the Constitutional Court (CC) on the dismissal or not of President Ilir Meta.”
This statement was made by the Chairman of the parliamentary group of the ruling Socialist Party, Taluant Balla to the media from the seat of the Parliament on Wednesday highlightin that there is not a single case when his party has questioned the decisions of the Constitutional Court.
“The Socialist Party of Albania will respect the decision of the Constitutional Court. The decision will be to the benefit of the quality of democracy in this country. If it is proven that the President has violated the Constitution, he should be fired, while if the Constitutional Court decides otherwise, we will accept the decision,” said Balla.
He stressed that the first session of the Constitutional Court will take place on January 18, when the Albanian Parliament will unveil its position on this issue.
“A representative will be in that session to present the evidence that the Parliament found for the dismissal of the President. What we have included in the final report of the investigative commission are facts and evidence that justify the dismissal,” said Balla.
Speaking about the procedures, the SP deputy stressed that “at the moment of dismissal of the President, it is the Speaker of the Parliament who exercises the powers of the President.”
“Immediately the Parliament begins the procedure for the election of the new President of the Republic. The constitution sets out deadlines and a necessary quorum for supportive signatures. The procedure is very clear,” said Balla. However, he added that “in the middle of April this year, the normal procedure for the election of the new President of the Republic begins.” / Argumentum.al
