TIRANA, July 10 – The Council for Regulation, Mandates and Immunity of the Assembly will convene on Tuesday following the request of the Special Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK), which submitted to the Assembly the request for the arrest of the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Arben Ahmetaj on Monday.
This announcement was released by the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, according to which the meeting will take place on July 11, at 16:00, in the premises of the Chairmanship of the Assembly.
Ahmetaj is accused of refusal to declare, non-declaration, concealment or false declaration of assets, passive corruption and money laundering in cooperation more than once.
The Council will examine the request of SPAK for granting authorization from the Assembly for the arrest/deprivation of liberty and the exercise of personal control of the house of the deputy, Arben Ahmetaj.
The meeting of the Council will take place behind closed doors in order to respect the criminal procedural legal framework on the preservation of investigative secrecy, a request made by SPAK as it is reported.
In the announcement of the Assembly, it is stated that the General Secretary is charged with notifying Deputy Ahmetaj and SPAK about the date, time and place of the meeting. /argumentum.al
