TIRANA, October 15 – After what happened in Banjska in northern Kosovo, the authority of the president of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has undermined and shaken in the eyes of the western powers who no longer see stability in him, said Serbian historian Milan Protic quoted by Danas on Sunday.
“His ‘reputation’ in the world that he is the source of stability in the Balkans is now at least called into question,” said Protic, who emphasized that the whole situation caused great damage to Serbia and not only to the current president. According to Protic, it would be useful if Serbia managed to get out of that vicious circle of autocracy in the near future.
He thought that Serbia’s foreign policy will remain unclear and contradictory and that nothing will change because it does not have the intellectual capacity to change it.
Asked about the package of measures announced against Serbia by Brussels, he answered that he does not expect that even if approved, they will go further than the measures applied to Kosovo. As he estimated, it probably suits the international negotiators to restore some symmetry between the authorities of Kosovo and Serbia. The Serbian historian expects that the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue process will continue, perhaps it will slow down having certain interruptions, but also with greater pressure on Serbia as Kosovo has improved its policy after Banjska. /argumentum.al
