TIRANA, April 29 – Austria fully supports the opening of membership negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia by June.
The news was announced by the Austrian Ambassador to Tirana, Christian Steiner, who revealed details of the meeting between the Chief Negotiator of Albania with the European Union, Zef Mazi and the Austrian Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Ambassador Johannes Eigner in a post on Twitter on Friday.
Austria reaffirmed its full support for the opening of membership negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia by June at this meeting, said the post.
“An excellent meeting between the chief negotiator for membership Zef Mazi and the Austrian Special Envoy for the Western Balkans ambassador Johannes Eigner. Austria reaffirmed its full support for the opening of membership negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia by June – let’s use this moment,” said Ambassador Steiner.
It is not said if the latest proposal of PM Edi Rama on decoupling from North Macedonia if Bulgaria insists on its veto against Skopje, a veto which has put in deadlock the talks for both candidate countries. Many EU members object to the decoupling.
