“We do not have to decide in place of the Albanians,” said the French ambassador to Albania, Elisabeth Barsacq, when asked about the role and intervention of foreign ambassadors in the internal affairs of Albania.
“So there are two things at the same time: the intervention of foreigners prompted by the desire of a new state to receive confirmation that it is doing well, and on the other hand criticism of this intervention. I am very careful and we do not have to decide for the Albanians,” Barsacq said in an interview on Euronews Albania released on Monday.
She added that ambassadors should serve their country in the country they represent, and serve more as advisers, as envisaged by their mission.
“Moreover, we should not forget that even though one diplomat can speak the language well, know the history or be very informed, he will always be on the surface of the reality of the country, even though you constantly try to deepen, but we do not have all the keys to understanding. This must always be kept in mind, as well as, of course, the Vienna Conventions,” said the French ambassador.
There were other cases when Ambassadors have held the same stance being against any interference in the Albanian affairs. Although they have not mentioned names, the US Ambassador, Yuri Kim, is hinted to openly support the Socialist majority and PM Edi Rama in their actions, some of which are corrupt affairs. She has never criticized any wrongdoings of the SP government. / Argumentum.al
