TIRANA, March 27 – “We are fully convinced that dialogue is the only way to solve the problems between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia,” declared the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj in the joint press conference with the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen on Monday.
Asked about the visit of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti to Tirana on Sunday and whether the conflict between neighboring countries affects the region, Begaj said that it is true that he had a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.
“For us, Kosovo is of paramount importance. We discussed extensively the process of the agreement reached in the European Union and the annex to this agreement in Ohrid. In no case, under no circumstances, as the President of the Republic of Albania, would I accept that there should be a Republika Srpska in Kosovo, and as far as I know, it is not even supported by the USA, which is a strategic partner of ours,” underlined Begaj.
While the President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen said that, “I only support what President Begaj said, the talks, the negotiations in Ohrid with the participation of Borrell, I think could be a cornerstone in the process of normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia. As you know, in fact some kind of agreement was made, but in the absence of an official signature by the participants, by the presidents.”
President Van der Bellen said that “dialogue between these countries is certainly difficult, but both are aware that without an agreement from both sides, both countries will not have a future towards the European Union.”
The Austrian President also addressed the Albanian Parliament after having meetings with different local leaders. /Argumentum.al
