TIRANA – “The detention of the two main robbers of last year’s stealing at Rinas airport marks a great achievement in the fight against organized crime,” said on Thursday Interior Minister Sander Lleshaj in a comment after the arrest of the two brothers, Klement and Eldi Cala, who were declared wanted over Rinas airport heist of an amount of 4.6 million euros. They have been on the run for one year after escaping the police hunt.
The huge amount of money, which was being taken abroad through an armored car by commercial banks in Albania, was robbed on April 9, 2019 by brothers Cala and Admir Murataj who was killed after a shootout with police, and some other accomplices.
Albanian police have detained Kosovo citizen Ragio Hajdini, as well as Elton Pikli, Renaldo Sulaj, Oltion Veseli, Saimir Cela, Alkond Bengasi and Hasan Kanaci. Another accomplice of them, Talo Cela, is still at large.
“Facing law and justice is inevitable, congratulations to the entire State Police team who achieved this encouraging success in these difficult days,” said Lleshaj./argumentum.al
