The European Commission has reached the conclusion that there is apparently a campaign directed against the head of the EU Delegation in Tirana, Luigi Soreca.
Its spokesman Peter Stano said in Brussels on Tuesday that the accusations and initiatives by the Alliance for the Protection of Theater in Albania, directed at the head of the Delegation in Albania, are unfounded and misinforming.
The Alliance asked president Ilir Meta and foreign minister Olta Xhaçka to declare Ambassador Soreca persona non grata in Albania because of cooperation with Mayor Erion Veliaj for the demolition of the National Theater in Tirana last year.
“It seems that there is a campaign directed against the head of the EU Delegation in Tirana, and I must say that the accusations and initiatives by the Alliance for the Protection of Theater in Albania, directed against the head of the Delegation in Albania, are unfounded and misinformation,” said Stano.
“Ambassador Soreca, the head of the Delegation, has the full and unwavering support of the leaders of the European Commission and EEAS, for the great work he is doing in the field and in the interest of the EU, the relations between the EU and Albania and the Albanian people,” stressed Stano.
The Spokesman said the EC continued to strongly support the Justice Reform in Albania and called on state and non-state actors to support the continued implementation of judicial reform.
“The great efforts of Albania in pursuing the Justice Reform and the vetting of judges and prosecutors have already delivered tangible first result and they can’t go back or slow down,” Stano concluded.
