China has further eased its family planning policy by supporting couples wishing to have a third child, according to the decision at a meeting of the Central Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (PKK) on Monday.
The meeting, chaired by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also the PKK secretary general, reviewed reports on key policy measures to actively address population aging during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021 -2025).
This change came not long after China’s once-a-decade census, which showed a drop in births in the world’s most populous country. According to the census, the Chinese population grew at its slowest pace over the last decade since the ‘50s. For 2020 alone, the fertility rate reached the same level as countries with the world’s oldest population like Japan. /CRI- argumentum.al
