TIRANA, March 8 – International Women’s Day was marked by a protest in Tirana and several other cities where women of various ages and professions marched with banners demanding women’s rights and freedoms.
Under the slogan “We don’t celebrate! Let’s march! For a life without violence for women and girls!” the women, although not many in number, conveyed messages about the irreplaceable role of women and girls in the life of the country as well as in building and leading peace in the world.
The march was joined by many citizens who chose March 8 as a day to speak out against violence against women, or other phenomena that burden them the most.
Members of the British embassy in Tirana also joined Wednesday’s march.
Through a reaction on social networks, the British embassy said that they joined Wednesday’s march in Tirana on the International Women’s Day to demand equal rights and opportunities for all girls and women in Albania.
Further the press release of the British Embassy said that they are aware of the challenges and difficulties that women face every day, expressing solidarity with their fight for equality. At the same time, a call is made to put an end to any form of gender-based violence and discrimination.
A protest was also organized in the city of Elbasan where a macabre crime happened a few days ago when three women were killed. /Argumentum.al
