TIRANA, May 5 – “Together with the “Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung” Foundation, we are preparing to hold a large conference about the progressive left and ideas for the left, especially with a focus on the European Union and the challenges faced by the Western Balkans,” has revealed the General Secretary of the Socialist Party (SP), Damian Gjiknuri.
On Thursday, Gjiknuri held a meeting with the president of the “Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung” Foundation, Martin Schulz, who is on an official visit to Tirana.
In a statement to the media after the meeting, Gjiknuri said that the “Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung” Foundation is working on the challenges that Albania is going through in this period.
“Schulz said that he has seen many changes in Albania, he is a big supporter of our policies. Everything is evident that Albania has changed and deserves to move forward,” said the high socialist official.
To the question whether the chairman of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta will be invited to this conference, Gjiknuri answered: “Ilir Meta is aligned with the coalition of the past and is no longer connected to the left, and I believe that you know he is no longer a part of progressive groups and represents nothing for the left. He even changed the name of the party, so he solved this dilemma by himself and there is no need for us to comment on it here.”
For his part, the president of the “Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung” Foundation highly appreciated the work done in Albania, the political developments and those related to the European Union. /argumentum.al
