The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj received in a meeting the Mayor of Corfu, Merope Hydraiou, with whom he talked about the cooperation between the two cities under the motto “Tirana, the European Capital of Youth 2022”.
“I look forward to cooperating in many areas, such as culture or tourism,” said Veliaj. The mayor said that the good relationship between the two countries exists over the years and continues today. “It is a special pleasure for us that many Albanian compatriots have turned Corfu into a second home,” he said. “It makes me very proud of the journey we have had together in these 30 years.”
The mayor of Corfu, Merope Hydraiou spoke about the strengthening of cooperation between Greece and Albania in various fields such as culture, education and tourism.
“I am happy for this meeting and cooperation with your team. You have a fantastic team that supports you. I know that Tirana has received the title of “European Youth Capital”, as a very developed city, and I am pleased about that. We are close neighbors and I think it is the right time between Greece and Albania, Corfu and Tirana, to strengthen cooperation in various fields such as culture, education and tourism,” she said adding that they cou work well and maybe sign a memorandum of cooperation with the municipalities of Tirana, Vlora and Saranda.
Corfu’s Hydraiou seemed not to be interested in cooperation with northern Albania. As majority of Greek minority is located in Tirana and southern Albania all powers, central and local in Greece, eye expansion of cooperation with these areas avoiding northern parts of this Balkan country. / Argumentum.al
