TIRANA, December 9 – The 31-year-old, Gert Shehu, who attacked the chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha in the protest of December 6, would stay behind bars indefinitely according to a ruling of the Court of Tirana on Friday.
His mental health was the main topic of both sides in the court session, which took place in the premises of the Trauma Hospital in Tirana to determine the security measure.
The prosecution told the court that until now there was no valid document to prove that he had mental problems. For this reason he must remain in prison, a request that was accepted by judge Besnik Hoxha until the administration of the expertise of Forensic Medicine says the last word on the mental condition of Shehu.
Lawyer Ervis Lila asked for the measure of “house arrest”. Speaking to the media he also admitted that he had no answer to the causes of the event.
The prosecution accuses Shehu of assault due to duty and intentional wounding, as the investigations are continuing in two tracks – confirmation or not of the diagnosis of his mental health, as well as the possibility of whether or not the young person was motivated to commit the unprecedented event.
In the meantime DP head Sali Berisha said on Friday that he had forgiven his aggressor, Gerti Shehu.
“I forgave Edi Rama’s kamikaze without explosives. The reason? Because he is convinced that he was simply the executor of the order of Edi Rama and the former head of the Police, Ardi Veli, Berisha said, accusing Rama of the crime.
“Gerti Shehu is an informant of the Criminal Police with first name, last name and code name. Edi Rama’s patient, Ardi Veliu’s neighbor and supporter, is so sick that he took out a loan from the bank. I also know the reasons why Rama wanted to hit the opposition by punching Sali Berisha on the day of his holiday, on the day of the EU-Western Balkans summit,” said Berisha. /Argumentum.al
