TIRANA – “Some 46 suspected persons were tested during the last 24 hours out of whom 6 have been confirmed infected with Covid-19,” said on Saturday Eugena Tomini, chief of the epidemiology intelligence department at the Institute of Public Health (ISHP).
The new cases take to 76 the total number of people who have been affected with the virus since its outbreak in Albania. According to Ms. Tomini, the highest number of the affected people is in Tirana (55) followed by the southern city of Fier (8) and the coastline city of Durres (5). There are lower number of cases in Lushnja, Elbasan, Rrogozhina and Kavaja.
According to the ISHP official, work goes on to identify new cases and trace down the contacted people of the patients confirmed positive. “There are 37 patients hospitalized in the infectious hospital in Tirana and 4 of them are in intensive therapy, while the rest are in a stable state,” she said, reiterating the call to Albanians to abide by the measure for self-isolation as the most effective way to prevent the spread of the epidemic.
To make possible the functioning of the confinement of the people, PM Edi Rama has taken to the streets the army and armored vehicles to patrol during the curfew which is scheduled to last from 13.00 o’clock on Saturday until 5.00 o’clock on Monday morning. All shops, including groceries and pharmacies, will stay closed
“The real traitors are those few individuals who do not abide by the rules of the quarantine and they are the very persons who can cause great damage harming badly thousands of innocent people,” said PM Rama in a post on his FB account. /argumentum.al/
